Koh Samui is one of the most vital tourist spots located in the Gulf of Thailand. Its luxurious beaches and tropical splendor make it the ideal venue for art-related events such as Samui International Body Painting Competition.

Held last March in front of The Buddy Oriental Samui Beach Resort on Lamai Beach, the theme of the competition was "Preserve the Paradise." There was no entry fee charged to any of the colorful contestants.

Such festivals have occurred in both Europe (Germany) and North America (Canada) over the course of the last decade, but the scope of this gathering was much more expansive, drawing artists and models from as far away as Romania, The United States, South Korea, Spain and The United Kingdom.
The purpose of the exhibition, beyond the exposure of vivid colors and alluring body shapes, was to stimulate an international interest in Thailand's artistic vision and tourist industry.

The audience did not function solely as voyeur in this unusual competition. They participated as well, both in body and face painting as well as painting on fingernails, with henna, on dolls and on recycled goods.

Guests were free to express themselves, even if that entailed just being a spectator on the sidelines enjoying the view and a few drinks.

Next year brings another festival and another unique opportunity to express one's own individuality amid tropical breezes and colorful displays.
Check out the video below depicting some of the events at this amazing and unusual festival.
